It was apparently back in the 17th century that whiskey found its way to America. That is around the time that Scottish and Irish immigrants began distilling their favourite drink and set whiskey production in the USA in motion in the process. Nowadays, American Whiskey is a collective umbrella term referring to all whiskeys from the USA. Traditionally, it is made from corn, rye, barley or – more rarely – wheat. The decisive criterion that sets apart the individual categories is the grain content and the composition of the grain mixtures.
